Pink city, Jaipur :
India's golden city, Jaipur is home to the most extravagant and elaborate palaces in the country, built by the princes of Rajasthan over the past millennia. The most famous is the Amber Fort, a stunningly ornate range of palaces built from 957 AD-1592, and modified for nearly 150 years afterward. The original glorious white-marble Amber Fort is connected to the present Jaigarh Fort through secret passages. The Hawa Mahal, or "Palace of the Wind," was built in 1799 as a pleasure palace for the Emperor's considerable harem - he wished to entertain them by allowing them to observe daily activities without the risk of their being seen by outsiders, thus its appearance. The palace looks like what it is: a screen to protect the identities of the ruler's beauties. In November, the Pushkar Camel Fair comes to Jaipur, bringing with it the essence of the rich colours and animals of Rajasthan and the surrounding desert. A Fair Village is built upon the shifting sands of the desert, and camels, donkeys, and bulls are raced and traded, and vendors sell exotic goods from fruits to saris to jewelry and beyond. Farmers and tourists from the furthest flung Indian states come to proudly display their cattle and handcrafts. One of the best movie theatres in Asia, the astonishingly elaborate and opulent Rajmandir is more than a cinema. Unique and aromatic blends of incense are released into the air at certain points during the film to transport guests to a world of sensuous mystery. Le Méridien Jaipur is a mere 32 kilometres from the international airport.
