Goa - Queen of the Beaches :
The origin of Goa, also known as Gomantak goes back to the times when the Mahabharata was penned down in the Vedic Period. As Goa became the focal point of spice and cotton trade; it captured the attention of various foreign dynasties including the Portuguese people. It remained a Portuguese colony for 450 years and got independence in 1961 followed by an independent statehood in 1987. Since then Goa is known for its picturesque locations, mesmerizing beauty, pristine white beaches and pin-drop tranquility. Today this beautiful coastal tourist destination is the most enchanting place in the Western Ghats in India with its verdant green stretches of land and natural picture perfect landscapes. Goa is also a bird watcher's paradise; epicenter of water and adventure sports and is home to some of the most captivating waterfalls in India. The distinguishing feature of Goa is the Sunny beaches, which are small white sand banks by the seashore. Ancient and historic temples, cathedrals, palaces, forts, beautiful gardens etc., are some of the other attractions in Goa. A visit to Goa is incomplete without participating in the Goa Carnival famous for its fun, frolic and music. When it comes to the exquisite cuisine of Goa, then one can go for the simple yet spicy seafood, fish, prawns, crabs and feni - the local liquor.
