Introduction to Rishikesh :
Rishikesh is one of the most holy places in India. Rishikesh is a holy city in the state of Uttaranchal, India. Rishikesh is situated at the distance of 24 km from Haridwar, another holy city of Uttaranchal. Set in the laps of mighty Himalayas, the town of Rishikesh is mainly famous for its religious significance. But it is also well-known for its exceptional natural beauty, temples, ashrams, yoga & meditation centres, and adventure sports. The land of Rishikesh is also blessed with the holy river of Ganga. Rishikesh is known as the Gateway of Chardham - the four sacred holy destinations - Badrinath, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Yamunotri. The land of Rishikesh is famous for not religious significance and various temples but also for a great land for meditation. It is said that meditation at this sacred place leads to the attainment of Moksha (salvation). Tourists from all around the world come to visit this sacred town of Rishikesh. The land of Rishikesh is also known for adventure sports like white water rafting, trekking in the Himalayan foothills. Welcome to the holy land of Rishikesh.
Tapovan :
Tapovan, literally, means 'the forest of meditation'. Tapovan is one of the most major places in Rishikesh. It is the excellent place for meditation and yoga. There are a number of ancient temples in Tapovan. Temples of Tapovan are dedicated to Lord Rama and his brothers Lakshmana and Bharata.
Lakshmana Jhula :
Lakshmana Jhula is the major hallmark of Rishikesh. Built in the year of 1993 over the holy river of Ganga, Lakshmana Jhula bridge is a must visit site in Rishikesh. It is a 450 feet long.
Nilkantha Mahadeo Temple :
Nilkantha Mahadeo Temple is also a major attraction of Rishikesh tours. This amazing temple is located at the distance of around 12 km from Rishikesh. It is located at a height of 5000 feet. This temple is dedicated to god of gods & goddesses - Lord Shiva.
How to reach Rishikesh :
By Air: To arrive in Rishikesh, the nearest airport is in Dehradun, the capital of Uttaranchal, India. By Rail: Rishikesh is only connected to Haridwar by rail. Haridwar is 24 km away from Rishikesh. Haridwar is well connected by rail with all the major cities of India, like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and others. By Road: Rishikesh is well-connected by surface with the cities like Haridwar, Kullu, Manali, Shimla and Dehradun. Haridwar is the most popular destination to visit Rishikesh by rail or road.
