This is considered as an architectural wonder, what with the thousand pillared hall, this is easily one of the biggest temples in India.
Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal :
This national monument was the palace of the famous ruler of Madurai, Thirumalai Nayakar, who ruled Madurai in the 17th century. Being a great patron of art and architecture, he built the palace in the Indo-Sarsenic style. Divided into two large and separate sections, each portion was self-contained, with residences, theaters, shrines complete with a pond and garden. The ceilings decorated with paintings, the gigantic pillars and architectural structures represent the architectural mastery of the craftsmen and this monument is regularly featured in Indian movies.

In addition to the Thiruparankundram temple, where a divine marriage is believed to have taken place, an Islamic durgah is located next to the temple which is a grave of an Islamic saint. People throng this holy place with the belief that their wish will be answered in a short while.
