Kumbhalgarh Fort :
Cradled in the cluster of thirteen mountain peaks of the Aravali ranges, the formidable medieval citadel Kumbhalgarh Fort stands a wary sentinel to the past glory. Rising from a prominent ridge, 1014 meters high from the sea level, the fort was built in the 15th century AD by Maharana Kumbha (1419-63 AD) The massive fort encompassed by a 36km long boundary wall is the second largest after the great wall of China, has seven majestic gates and seven rampart one within the other. Rounded bastions and soaring watch towers strengthen the crenellated walls of the fort making it an impregnable structure. Within the fort are many magnificent and an array of ruined temples. The most picturesque of the palace is the Badal Mahal or the cloud palace offering a superb bird's eye-view of the country side. As one moves to the west, Kali Temple and Mamadev Kund with royal chhatris can be seen. On the northern side, a three storied Haven Vedi is built where 108 pandits performed a haven on completion of the fort. Another noteworthy temple, a little further enshrines a fine black marble lingam known as Neelkanth Mahadev.
Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary :
Situated admits the beauteous dales of the Aravalli ranges, the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is spotted with endemic fauna, alluring flora and bejeweled with the verdurous beauty and resounding valley. It is a great exploring place not only for the Fau´nist and the florist. Spread across an area of 609 sq. kms the sanctuary is a marvel to be viewed. At an altitude of more that 3500 ft. above MSL; the western part is adjoined to the Marwar desert plains offering a diverse topography. Due to difference of altitude a great variety of vegetation is found in the sanctuary. Aravali is one of the richest sources of Ayurvedic herbs some of which are rare to this region. The rich vegetation cover of the sanctuary is the heaven for a number of animal and bird species. Panther is the main predator with other carnivores like Indian wolf, Jungle Cat, Hyena, Jackals and the endangered caracal. The herbivores included Sambhar, Chinkara, Wild boar, Roz, Sloth bear and the endangered four horned Antelopes. The sanctuary is a safe place for crocodile, starred tortoise, Indian mud or flap shelled turtle, common garden lizard, Indian monster lizard, rat snake, Indian krait, russels viper, Indian cobra, water snake python and the endangered green yellow chemo lion. The bird watchers can have a great time in the sanctuary as more than 200 species of birds can be seen here. They includes Babblers, barbet, bee-eater, cuckoo, bulbul, rock chat, pea fowl, drogue, grey jungle fowl, flycatcher, flower-packer, Spur fowl, green munya, parakeet, night jar, partridge, quail, robin, roller, sand grouse, sand piper, shrike, sunbird, swallow, tailorbirds, weaver bird, woodpecker etc. Among birds of pray crested serpent eagle, crested hawk, eagle, shikra, Kestrel, falcon, owlet etc. can be seen. During winter dabchick, cormorant, Indian shag, darter, egret grey heron storks, spoonbill, goose, ducks, teals pintail saras, crane, coot, moorhen, water hen jacana, snipe still etc can be seen.
Jain Temples :
Known as 'Machindpur' it was the capital of Raja Sampriti who adopted Jain religion in the 3rd Century B.C. History reveals there were six hundred temples of Jain community most of them are now ruined. Maharana Kumbha rebuilt some of these temples. Situated in the northern part of the fort, the Pital Shah Temple is constructed on a raised plinth and consists of a multi pillared Sabhamandapa and a shrine. The shrine is a sarvatobhadra with remains of a pedestal with four pillars at the corner supporting a canopy over it. Its Sikhara has fallen. The Jangha is adorned with figures of Gods and goddess, apsaras, dancers and musicians. Nine Temples in a cluster known as Golerao Temples are surrounded by a round walled enclosure. The main temple which faces to east and is a Samavasarana Temple. Walls are sculptured with images of Gods & goddess. A garbhgrah is also constructed. The Famous Jain Shrine called "Bavan Devri" is so named as it has bawan (fifty two) shrines in a single complex with one entrance. Out of fifty two Shrines two are big in size, located in the center, the remaining fifty shrines are small in size and arranged all around the outer wall.
