Fauna :
Some major animals found in the Periyar National Park are Tigers, Asian Elephants, Gaurs, Nilgiri Langurs, Sambars, Malabar Giant Squirrels, Bisons, Antelopes, Wild Boars, Spotted Deers, and striped necked Mongoose.
Reptiles :
Some major reptiles found in Periyar National Park are King Cobra, Krait, Viper, non-poisonous snakes, Tortoise, Bi-colored Frogs, and Crocodiles.
Avifauna :
Some major species of birds found in the Periyar National Park are great Indian Hornbill, Kites, Black-winged kites, Nilgiri wood pigeons, blue-winged parakeets, fly catchers, kingfishers, cormorants, black-necked stork, laughing thrushes, darters, cormorants, white-bellied tree pies, barbets, racket-tailed drongoes, peafowl, and plovers.
How to reach Periyar :
By Air: Periyar has no airport. But one can take a flight for Cochin, Madurai or Trivandrum. Cochin Airport is at the distance of 204 km from Periyar. Trivandrum Airport is 270 km from Periyar. And Madurai Airport is 150 Km from Periyar. Periyar is well connected by road with these destinations. By Rail: To arrive in Periyar, nearby stations are Kottayam (110 km), Trivandrum (270 km), Cochin (204 km), and Madurai (150 km). Road: Periyar is well connected by surface with the cities like Kumilly, Cochin, Trivandrum, Alleppey, and Madurai.
