Places to see in Delhi :
Delhi has two distinct faces - Old Delhi & New Delhi. Emperor Shahajahan, the creator of Taj Mahal, built old Delhi, originally known as Shahjahanabad. The Old city, with the Red Fort (the main palace) as the focal point and Jama Masjid as the praying center, had a fascinating market called Chandni Chowk (literary meaning a market which shines in the moon). Today, Chandni Chowk still operates as an active market place and is considered to be Asia's largest wholesale market. Modern Delhi or New Delhi as it is called, built in early twentieth century by the British rulers of India, is abound with various symbols of the Colonial raj. From the Rashtrapati Bhawan, which is home to the President of the country to the Oval shaped Parliament House - the seat of the Indian Democracy. The central avenue 'Raj Path' with its water ways and lush green gardens, which lead up to the India Gate, a memorial raised in honour of the Indian soldiers who were martyred during the World War I.The hub of New Delhi is Connaught Place, where you'll find most of the airline offices, travel agents and banks. 'Old' Delhi is a couple of kilometres north. On the southern side of Connaught Place is Janpath, which has streets lined with colourful mid-ranged and budget friendly shops. There are a number of cinemas and performing art centres around Connaught Place helping you familiarise with the rich traditions of art and culture. All government offices, ministries, major corporate houses, international trade fair grounds - are within a three-kilometer radius from the hotel.
